Fort Polk-America's Training Ground

Fort Polk Louisiana Legend Country Vernon ParishLouisiana’s Legend Country boasts of outlaws and bandits during its No Man’s Land days of old, but more recently we are known as the training ground turning out the brave men and women who served in our United States Armed Forces. Fort Polk was originally established as Camp Polk in 1941 during the Great Louisiana Maneuvers. After the war, the camp was used periodically for training, but it re-opened as Fort Polk in 1962 and has remained in continuous operation ever since. Today, it is the home to the Joint Readiness Training Center.

The Fort Polk Military Museum honors our heroes, and features indoor galleries and historical tanks outdoors. Exhibits highlight the Louisiana Maneuvers and the Vietnam War era “Tiger Land.” The Museum is open to the public, Tue-Sat, 9am - 4pm, excluding national holidays.
